About Rohit Bal

The 51-year-old grew up in paradise valley Kashmir and he defines his formative childhood years as purely idyllic. “Strawberries and cherries... like in that song Summer Wine by Nancy Sinatra… that is how I can sum up my growingup years,” he tells us after going deep into thought, and that too with a smile – perhaps recollecting fond memories. Belonging to a family of Kashmiri Pandits, he moved to Delhi back in the eighties and there has been no turning back for this self-styled explorer.

He graduated from St Stephens with a degree in history and then continued his journey towards fashion through the National Institute of Fashion Technology. “For a designer, anything he creates is a piece of art and the quest for trying something new is never-ending,” he elaborates. His extensive clientele includes Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and Anna Kournikova. He has won the Designer of the Year Award at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006, Designer of the Year at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001 and was the Lakme Grand Finale Designer for 2012.
